LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

Dear Parents and Carers,

Students in Years K – 5 learnt of their 2023 class, teacher/s and learning space location during our last transition session on Monday. Your child will have brought home a letter confirming their class placement as well as an activity they completed during their ‘Meet my Teacher’ session.

Many hours of considered and thoughtful decisions have been made to ensure as best we can, on the information we have, creates balanced classes. The following criterion which are underpinned by the values of equity and inclusion were applied to the composition of classes:

  • each student has at least one student listed on his or her proforma and if that can’t be done the parents are contacted and the situation is explained to them
  • there are groups of mixed ability students in every class
  • students’ social, emotional, and behavioural needs are considered
  • a balance of gender where possible
  • a mix of students from previous classes

After 36 year working in public education, Mrs Robyn Crawford will retire at the end of the year. Robyn, a past student, has spent the last 14 years of her career here at NSPS. We thank her for the contributions she has made to both state education and our school community. We trust she will enjoy her retirement.

Mr Mike Dallimore has been transferred to Latrobe Primary School and Miss Raquel Innis made the decision during the year to follow her passion and pursue a new career in architecture. Mrs Suzie Garwood has resigned. During terms 1 and 2, Mrs Karen Richardson will be acting Principal at Sprent Primary School.

We welcome Ms Michelle Burke to the role as Support Teacher and will work across the school.

I know our school community will welcome our new staff and wish are departing staff well in their future endeavours and thank them for their considerable contribution to education, our school, and students.

RETIREMENT – Mrs Robyn Crawford

I began my teaching career at Avoca Primary School in 1986. It was a 3-teacher school, with only 52 students- a lot different from Nixon Street! After I left there, I taught at Rosebery District High, East Devonport Primary, Sprent Primary and Miandetta Primary before I began at Nixon Street Primary in 2008.

Nixon Street Primary has been a huge part of my life. I was a student here from Kinder to Grade 6, my children both attended Nixon Street and I have been lucky enough to teach here for the last 15 years. I think that's over 30 years that I have been associated with the school in one way or another.

It's always great when my ex-students come and say hello and tell me what they've been doing since they left primary school. I have also taught the children of many of my ex-students, which really makes me feel old!!

I have really enjoyed working at Nixon Street and will miss being part of the Nixon Street community.

This term in Japanese we have been looking at the sustainable development goals and exploring the theme of waste.

Students enjoyed making bags together in class.
