Respectful Schools Policy
The purpose of the Respectful Student Behaviour Policy is to promote positive and respectful student behaviour at Nixon Street Primary School.
The Policy sets out what is unacceptable student behaviour. It outlines the process for responding to unacceptable behaviour using a range of strategies and approaches to ensure students remain engaged in learning.
Uniform Policy
The aim of the Nixon Street Primary School uniform is to have students take pride in the school, and themselves, through the wearing of a uniform. We believe a consistent presence of full uniform is a very powerful way to create a sense of pride and community.

Move Well, Eat Well
The promotion of healthy eating and physical activity in the school curriculum (and related school programs) is recognised as vital to supporting lifelong health and wellbeing. Access to nutritional food and drink is central to the development of happy and healthy children. A partnership approach (Working with parents/carers, students and staff), is required to develop a Move Well, Eat Well school community.
Sun Protection Policy
Over-exposure to UV (ultraviolet) rays causes sunburn, skin damage and increased risk of skin cancer. Inappropriate sun exposure in the first 18 years of life contributes significantly to the lifetime risk of developing skin cancer. However, some skin exposure to the sun’s UV rays is needed for the production of vitamin D, vital for the maintenance of healthy bones, teeth and general good health.
Being SunSmart is a whole-of-year approach. It means that children and staff attending this school will use sun protection when the UV is 3 and above (Sept to April), and safe sun exposure for vitamin D (May to August).
Use of Mobile Phones by Students at School
The Department of Education does not permit the use of mobile phones by students in Tasmanian Government Schools. It is important to note that it is not a requirement at Nixon Street Primary School for students to have a mobile phone at school. Nixon St recognises that an increasing number of parents/carers who for safety, security and/or emergency purposes wish to provide their child/children with mobile phones. Students must have their phones switched off and appropriately stored from the start to end of the school day.
