Welcome to Nixon Street Primary School
Principal's Welcome
Hello and thank you for visiting our website.
Nixon Street Primary School is a co-educational Birth - 6 school serving the community of Devonport and its surrounds. Our school currently has a student population of approximately 410 people. Established in 1959, in 2019 we celebrated our 60th year. We have a proud tradition of offering exceptional education and working with the all in the community to continually improve.
Our core values of Respect, Connect, Create and Learn can be seen daily around our school and underpin our actions and interactions with each other. These values help us to develop life-long learners who are challenged to continually strive to reach for their dreams.
Our school programs deliver high-quality teaching and learning programs from birth to four in the ‘Launching into Learning’ initiative, underpinned in Kindergarten by the Early Years Learning Framework and from Prep to Year 6 by the Australian Curriculum Framework. Additionally, our students have regular access as part of their learning program to specialist learning in Music, Japanese and Physical Education.
The school has excellent amenities, including a Library, gymnasium, indoor heated pool, adventure play areas and a variety of large outdoor spaces. All of these facilities are utilised to provide exceptional learning experiences to engage students in their learning.
It is an absolute privilege to be principal of Nixon Street Primary School where we are committed to providing high levels of learning in a safe and supportive environment for all students. It is our mission to work together with all members of our school community to aspire to achieve the highest levels of academic, personal and social growth.

At Nixon Street Primary we are always looking for ways to creatively engage with students, families and the community. This 21st Century Skill is shown in the many different ways that our teachers and students go about learning on a daily basis.
OUR SCHOOL PRIORITIES AND GOALS IN 2023 ARE:
- Improve literacy outcomes by implementing best-practice reading instruction across the school.
- Work towards implementing and embedding an agreed whole school instructional model.
- Continue to embed high expectations in order to grow connected, respectful and engaged learners.
